Common questions.
Most issues are a one-time macOS permission. Here’s how to clear them.
Is Rakkun signed and safe to install?
Yes. Rakkun is code-signed with an Apple Developer ID and notarized by Apple, so macOS Gatekeeper accepts it. Move it to your Applications folder and double-click — it opens like any other Mac app, with no security warning.
The Mac App Store release is on the way. If you ever hit a Gatekeeper prompt (for example on a build downloaded before notarization), Control-click Rakkun and choose Open once, and macOS remembers.
The ⌘⇧V hotkey doesn’t open the panel
Two things to check:
- Make sure Rakkun is running — look for the raccoon in your menu bar. If it isn’t there, launch it from Applications.
- Another app may already own ⌘⇧V. Open Rakkun → Settings → Hotkey and record a new shortcut; the change takes effect immediately.
Pressing ↩ copies the item but doesn’t paste into my app
Pasting directly into the frontmost app requires macOS Accessibility permission. Until you grant it, Rakkun copies the item to your clipboard instead of pressing ⌘V for you — so a manual paste always works as a fallback.
To enable direct paste: System Settings → Privacy & Security → Accessibility, then turn on Rakkun. Rakkun never asks for this silently and works fine without it.
Things I copy from my password manager never show up
That’s deliberate, and it’s one of Rakkun’s core promises. Anything a password manager marks as a concealed pasteboard type is never recorded — not masked, not stored, not seen. It won’t appear in your history because Rakkun never read it. You can exclude any other app the same way under Settings → Privacy → Excluded apps.
Where is my clipboard history stored? Is any of it uploaded?
Everything stays on your Mac. There’s no account, no sync service, and no server — nothing you copy ever touches a network, and there’s zero telemetry on clipboard contents.
Detected secrets are masked on screen. Unpinned secrets live only for the session; pinning one moves it into the macOS Keychain, and only a masked stub is written to disk.
How do I stop Rakkun from recording a specific app?
Open Settings → Privacy and add the app to the excluded list. From then on, anything copied while that app is frontmost is ignored — the same mechanism that protects password managers automatically.
Launch at login won’t stay enabled
macOS gates login items behind its own approval. Toggle Launch at login in Settings → General; if it reverts, check System Settings → General → Login Items and allow Rakkun there. The toggle reflects the real system state, so it will settle once macOS approves it.
How do I update Rakkun?
During early access, updates are re-downloads: come back to rakkun.app with your access code, download the latest build, and replace the app in your Applications folder. Your history and settings are kept. Automatic updates arrive with the Mac App Store release.
Which macOS versions are supported?
Rakkun runs on macOS 14 Sonoma and later, on both Apple Silicon and Intel Macs.
Does the screenshot text recognition (OCR) work offline?
Yes. OCR uses Apple’s on-device Vision framework — copied images are read entirely on your Mac and never sent anywhere, just like the rest of your clipboard.
How do I uninstall Rakkun?
- Click the menu-bar icon and choose Quit.
- Drag Rakkun from Applications to the Trash.
- Optional: remove the login item under System Settings → General → Login Items.
